From Dr, Joseph Knott, Director, School of Music at KSU:
Lucy,
Thanks to you for all your efforts; the success of the Summer Strings Study was due to your hard work and diligence. I thought yesterday’s Record Courier article was wonderful.

Letter from the mother of a student of the program to Dr. Timothy Chandler, Dean of Arts at KSU:
Dr. Timothy J. L. Chandler Kent State University College of the Arts P.O. Box 5190 Kent, OH 44242-0001
Dear Dr. Chandler:
This letter is in praise of the wonderful Summer Strings Study program which was offered this summer under the direction of Lucy Zaynor and the tutelage of the fabulous La Catrina Quartet/Quintet.
Ms. Zaynor was highly organized, marvelously enthusiastic and extremely helpful!
The La Catrina musicians were delightfully approachable in addition to being tremendously talented and dedicated musicians! They were so kind and patient with the kids and the kids just loved them. The camp was a really unique experience and so much more than any of the kids or parents expected, including learning about pitch, music history and other related matters. My son, Miles, and I have talked about the fact that he now has such a broadened concept of what it means to be a musician and what musicianship is all about. He found all of this very exciting and mind expanding.
There was also lovely camaraderie amongst the participants and the staff that was really special. Miles got to know and like everyone and that doesn’t always happen in settings like this. I believe much of this was due to Lucy Zaynor’s involvement and to the generous spirit of the La Catrina guys
Finally, the Master Class with two members of the Miami String Quartet was a really special opportunity for the kids.
The two recitals the students gave were fabulous and everyone was grateful for the opportunity for them to showcase their progress.
We fully intend to return next year and we plan to spread the word at every opportunity!
Kudos to Kent State for making this wonderful opportunity possible!
Very truly yours,
Cynthia A. Slack
